The responsibilities of the Executive Director include managing the day-to-day operations; preparing an environment where children can reach their potential; inspiring and leading staff to work at their highest capacity; working with multiple stakeholders; and ensuring that all legislative requirements are met. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in child care and the provision of a safe, healthy, and caring environment for all children.
The Executive Director will develop and manage the policies and procedures of the Daycare, which must align with the goals and objectives of the Board of Directors. We are seeking a highly skilled, effective, and experienced leader who can work well with the Assistant Director, communicate effectively with the Board of Directors, inspire and collaborate with unionized staff, families and children, and connect to the Daycare’s community.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of and compliance with all relevant legislation and requirements.
- Manage day-to-day operation of the program.
- Lead a physically safe and emotionally supportive environment that shows sensitivity to the individual needs of the children in all aspects of their development, as well as the needs of the staff and families.
- Liaise with Toronto District School Board school administration and board staff to maintain open communication and effective partnerships between the Daycare, the school and the school board.
- Recruit, train, monitor, evaluate and inspire staff to deliver a high-quality curriculum and an exceptional standard of care.
- Lead the bargaining team in collective agreement negotiations with the union.
- Implement responsibilities under the Collective Agreement.
- Report all relevant information to the Board of Directors for governance purposes.
- Communicate effectively with staff, families, and partners within the community.
- Promote professionalism and a positive atmosphere through team initiatives and a high standard of customer service.
- Lead regular staff meetings.
- Act as a resource to the Assistant Director for oversight of curriculum implementation and program delivery.
- Available to work outside of the Daycare’s standard hours, including monthly evening meetings with the Board of Directors.
- Financial accountability and reporting to the Board of Directors.
- Manage revenue and expenses to ensure the Daycare operates within budget.
- Work with the Board Finance Committee and the Board of Directors in budget planning.
- Oversee and collaborate with the Bookkeeper on the preparation of budgets and monthly financial statements.
- Work with funding agencies to obtain and/or maintain resources.
- Track, input and manage accounts payable and receivables.
- Five (5) years of experience in an Ontario childcare centre as a Director/Manager.
- Registered Early Childhood Educator in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (or equivalent).
- Post-secondary degree (or equivalent experience).
- Strong financial management skills, including managing a budget, supporting audit preparation, and interpreting relevant financial reports.
- Experience in collective bargaining and working with a union.
- Human resources experience, including managing health and safety issues and disability/accommodation issues.
- Experience with crisis management.
- Familiarity with the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care system is an asset.
- Clear, effective oral and written communication.
- People management skills including leading, recruiting, and retaining staff.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Standard First Aid and CPR level C.
- Health Assessment and Immunization as required by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
